Recently over 1,200 doctors who where already members of the American Society of Addiction Medicine were grandfathered in to the new American Board of Addiction Medicine as being addiction specialists.
We have found that ineffective treatment measures actually start with the schooling of these doctors, which range from regular MD's to psychiatrist, because of the tainted education and research funded by the pharmaceutical industry. This is where the damaging practice of recommending prescription drugs as a part of addiction treatment started and the unholy bond continues stronger than ever, feeding the giant machine designed to only treat the symptoms and never solver the problem. Untold billions of dollars continue to go in this direction with little or no results.
Before you listen to some doctor tell you about what drug you should take for something, you should find out who told them that and where that information came from. You should also find a doctor that is not so quick to push drugs on people and get a second or third opinion. There are a lot of qualified addiction recovery programs and drug and alcohol rehabs out there with such professionals on staff.
